Under the agreement with the NSW Department of Commerce, Lenovo are required to accept up to 1 system per new machine purchased. If you have a requirement to dispose of more systems than are being purchased, Lenovo can execute the decommissioning/disposal on your behalf.
Lenovo is ranked by Greenpeace among the top environmentally responsible companies in the world, therefore we take the issue of e-waste and PC recycling very seriously. For example, did you know your old CRT monitors likely contain high lead content, and hard drives and keyboards may contain a range of chemicals that are detrimental to the environment?
Depending on the age, standard, type and status of the equipment, and depending on the level of security required by you, the equipment may be re-deployed to disadvantaged communities or countries. Equipment not appropriate for re-use will be stripped down, reworked and recycled to minimize environmental impact.
Equipment must be shipped in such a way to minimize damage. To ensure compliance with transport and OH&S regulations, equipment (particularly CRT monitors) must be bubble-wrapped or contained in a carton. Physically damaged or incomplete equipment may not be accepted for takeback.

Customers undertaking large rollouts can negotiate specific timing requirements with Lenovo. The timing for the takeback of equipment supplied under Technology 4 Learning (T4L) and 2007 discretionary is to have takeback completed before the end of Term 1, 2008.
The systems are not required to be working, but must contain all components which were originally shipped. Care must be taken to ensure the systems are shipped as complete units. Physically damaged equipment will not be accepted. All systems must have security devices and all passwords removed (hard disk/BIOS passwords etc)
Lenovo has established an email address for you to register your takeback requirements. Please contact us at lensyd_au@lenovo.com. To help ensure the smooth operation of takeback, please inform us of:
Your school code
School name
Takeback contact person & contact details
Number of PCs you are wishing to return
PO number or rollout details for the new Lenovo equipment providing the takeback opportunity
Make, model, serial number and brief description of any equipment being returned
We will then schedule a pickup date. Prior to pickup, ensure;
That all security options are removed (passwords, locks)
All the equipment is centralised into one location, ready for pickup
Ensure all the equipment is appropriately wrapped/packed
The above requests help ensure we are collecting the right equipment, and also provides an audit trail to ensure appropriate and adequate recycling of NSW DET equipment (including protecting the privacy of the data on the system)
Lenovo will decommission any equipment you wish to dispose of. There is a charge for decommissioning which can include secure data disposal. If you have not already paid for decommissioning as part of the new equipment purchase, or if the new equipment is not part of a rollout, please send an order for:
43R2177 Decommissioning – 3x overwrite $10 per unit
If you choose not to decommission your equipment as part of your takeback process, Lenovo will not be responsible for any data left on the system and any software site licensing implications if this equipment is redeployed elsewhere.
WHAT IF SYSTEMS DO NOT COMPLY WITH
REQUIREMENTS?
(eg, incomplete/damaged/security options not removed)
Systems not meeting the minimum requirements outlined above may be rejected. Please contact us at lensyd_au@lenovo.com if you have any specific requirements.
